The Cose-Crowder Family

Christmas is a time for family. So I was thrilled to do a family shoot on Christmas eve. Mrs. Jersey found me after I took photos of Bridget and Ken. Ken is her step-son. Mrs. Jersey asked me to take photos of all of her children.

The only time we could all get together was on Christmas eve. Everyone is spread out now, with their own lives. But I thought it was nice of them all to take some time out and do this for their mom.

So, here are the photos:

A Barrett Family Christmas

Christmas is one of the few times everyone in my family comes together. We are all spread out, I am in Sacramento and I have a cousin at Harvard and another at UCLA. Since we were all together my dad asked me to take some photos of everyone.

This is the whole family, minus me…because I’m taking the photo. If I had thought about this photo more I would have asked a few people to change place. I don’t like where everyone is standing… lesson learned I guess.

Like every family, ours has a lot of stories. My grandma came to America from Mexico some time in the late 1920’s. She and her twin sister grew up on a farm in Kansas. When my grandma and her sister grew up they became nurses. Grandma moved to California and had three kids (My dad, aunt and uncle that are seen above).

My dad grew up with his siblings and his single mom in San Francisco. He listened to cowboy shows on the radio, went to Catholic school and collected comic books. A year after graduating high school he joined the U.S. Army. He eventually got accepted to West Point but turned it down and got stationed in Germany.

Sister Act: Sara & Morgan

“Are there any girls to play with?” is the question that started it all. Four-year-old Sara had followed her older brother to the house down the street. Her brother was playing with a friends and Sara followed him, marched up to the front door and spoke her mind. Lucky for Sara, there was a girl, Morgan. They have been friends ever since.

Anyone who knows Sara understands how prophetic that story is. Four year old Sara was showing the same tenacity that is a core aspect of her character today (she is now 22).

Morgan is the “cool” one. She wears the cool clothes, knows about make-up and is artistic. She is also younger than Sara and probably was a little de facto cool because she had an older friend. Morgan also does what she wants, no matter what people say. She will climb tall trees, drive too fast and or go climb on some high rocks.

Both girls did swim team together and girl scouts together. Sara looked out for Morgan in high school. After all, Sara was a senior and Morgan was a freshman. Sara’s protection grounds Morgan and Morgan’s risk taking is an adventure for Sara. (There is a certain concert tour bus chasing incident that really proves this point but will remain unspoken here because it’s too embarrassing).

Both Sara and Morgan’s parents live in the same houses they did when both the girls where little. But Sara now goes to school in Tennessee and only comes back to California once or twice a year.  It is nice that when Sara is back home both girls still live near each other and are able to hang out. This photo shoot is just one of the many winter break plans they have.

Though they are not related by blood both of them call each other sisters. Because they are.

Puppy!

Bridget and Ken have been married for a little over a year. Since being married they have moved to a new place and they just got a new puppy!!! Bowser is the latest addition to their family. He is a little bundle of energy. It was a lot of fun hanging out with them all at the dog park.

Bowser is extremely curious and incredibly cute! Bridget and ken have their hands full trying to train him. They have been doing some major dog whisper lessons!

It is nice photographing Bridget and Ken. I’ve been taking photos of them since they started dating. It is a great experience documenting them as a couple through different stages of their relationship. I have photos of them when they were dating, then when they got engaged, and now when they are married and have a puppy!

Thank you.

I’m a sending out graduation notifications and thank you cards…thus this quote seemed fitting:

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.  ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Overwhelmed!!!

It’s midterm season and the only reason I’m blogging is that I finished one midterm today.  My last two are next week but the one I took today was the big scary midterm.  That being said, I’m still super busy.  It feels like everything is happening all at once. Midterm season isn’t just the time were all my classes give their midterm tests, it’s also the election midterms. So I have GOTV (Get Out The Vote) events, “studying” aka desperately cramming stuff into my head, making sure a event for my boss is holding at my school goes off well.  It feels rather overwhelming!!! and you guessed it, my last midterm is on election day 😦

With that in mind lets look at the LOL’s and WTF’s of the past week…

LOL’s:

  • My dad coloring his beard black to be like the Giant’s pitcher (who I guess has a black beard).
  • Getting a plane ticket to go home on election day!!! This might not be funny but it’s the best news I’ve gotten in a long time!!!
  • My roommate bring home the new Taylor Swift CD after her firm anti-Taylor stance.  It’s good to see that’s now over.

WTF:

  • Political Science Professors who have their midterms on election day!
  • The 14 boxes of posters for Eva Longoria’s new documentary movie…what am I meant to do with all that???
  • Students who don’t VOTE (Election Day, Nov. 2)

To deal with all the stress…here is a picture of my favorite fruit: Pomegranate!

Help, Daddy

Memory from Concord

This was a little boy who was in the same restaurant as us. We where all playing cards…and we can get a little loud. I felt bad for this little boy because our loud jokes seemed to scare him at times. However, this was just one moment where him and his dad went to get a drink. The little boy was adorable.
