Photography Review: 2011

2011 has been a crazy year! I graduated from UCLA, got a job, moved cities and got my own apartment. 2011 was also a big year for my photography. Having the opportunity to photograph so many gorgeous, happy, brave and inspiring people was fantastic!!! I learned something from every shoot. It was a blast getting to know everyone.

Here are some of the photos I took in 2011:

Okay, so I didn’t take that last photo. My sister did. But it is my favorite pic of me this year, at my graduation. I can not wait to see what 2012 brings!

Graduation Shoot: Sam Iaquinto

Sam and I have known each other since high school. Sam is one of the bravest people I know. She has traveled all over the world! She has been to New York, Japan, the Philippians, Europe, and Latin America. What’s more, she doesn’t just visit a place. Often times she lives there. She is living in Spain right now. I’m so happy I got to graduate from college with Sam. It was nice to through it with someone who had already gone through a graduation before.

I LOVED Sam’s colorful dress!!! and I also LOVED that she wanted to take photos at different parts of campus. She was the only one to ask for a photo with the Bruin Bear.

I miss talking with Sam a lot! I hope she is having a blast in Spain. I’m also really sorry it took me so long to post this shoot.

Group Graduation Shoot

UCLA’s graduation is this Friday!!! Everyone’s excited or stressed (because they are still taking finials).  Good luck to everyone and I can’t wait to celebrate with you all on Friday!!!

This weekend I had a great shoot with a group of seniors. I knew one of them from my building last year and the other three where new friends! We had so much fun taking photos. We took some photos out by Royce Hall, in one of the campus gardens and out by the library. I hope they all like their photos and go on to many great things!!!

Graduation Shoot: Holly C-W

I have been so busy this weekend with graduation shoots and my LAST paper EVER!!!! But I’m so happy that I was able to shoot so much recently. Thank you to everyone who has booked a shoot.

Holly is a history major and a graduating senior! She is a Star Wars fan (I’m a Star Trek fan…) but we can both agree that Harry Potter is the best thing ever! Holly booked this shoot with me because she wanted to surprise her parents with a graduation gift. She wants to give her mom some photos 🙂 I think this is the cutest idea in the world.

Congratulations Holly! Good luck after graduation!!!

Holly quickly told me that her favorite spot on campus was the Sculpture Garden. So we went and shot there. I was very excited for the change in venue!

My Life In iPod Photos: Part II

Cameras are everywhere these days. They are on your phone, computer, ipad and ipod. And people take pictures of everything! These photos are of the little things we do or see. They are not as big and flashy as a photo shoot. But I think, ipod photos are a more honest portrait of our lives. I take photos of building I see when I walk home everyday. I might do this because I like how the light is hitting the windows or because I think the building is interesting. I take photos of funny posters or graffiti. I basically take photos of things that I see in my everyday life.

So here is my life in ipod photos (well, the last four months of my life).

Becca Barrett Photography

Above is the view from my apartment buildings roof. I go up there to read sometimes. Below is a billboard on campus. It was during the Bruin Week…when high school seniors who were accepted to the school come and visit.

Below is something I saw on the way to class. Someone wrote it on the stair case railing. I thought it was really petty.

Below is a picture of the oath I had to take for work 🙂

And of course below is my graduation sash and graduation tickets!

Graduation Shoot: Mac Tan

Mac was my Resident Assistant last year and he really helped me adjust to life at UCLA. Over that year he became a really good friend of mine. Mac is really one of the happiest, smartest and most helpful people I know. I was thrilled when he asked me to take graduation photos for him!

Mac will be graduating from UCLA with a degree in Political Science.

Portraits Of the UCLA Elections Board

Student government elections are brutal at UCLA and the people that are meant to keep the candidates and supporters in line are the Elections Board (e-board for short).  The e-board are the arbiters of the election. They organize the debates and make rulings on if any of the candidates are acting inappropriately. Which is a very stressful job. Both sides call each other on bad behavior and the e-board has to rule fairly.

This years UCLA e-board is made up of five people, four of which sat down with me to take photos. Each of them are fantastic student leaders! Ashley works for UCLA’s Bruin Lobby Corps and the External Vice Presidents Office and she is an amazing person who does so much for the school. Patrick is the Former Advertising Director for Bruin Democrats and is going to Washington D.C. this summer to intern for Congresswoman Bass. Both Patrick and Ashley are graduating this year (CONGRATULATIONS)!!!

Libby is a foreign exchange student from England – Which just makes her involvement in student government all the more impressive…she won’t even be here next year and she is getting involved! Also I have Libby’s photo in black and white because I think it gives her that old English uni girl look. Like in that photo she could be attending Oxford right now and thinking of running for Parliament…lol. I just met Amna at the shoot and I was blown away by how sweet she is! She was so nice to me and everyone in group. I have no doubt she will be a fair decision maker.

So here they are UCLA, your Election Board members. May we have a fair and peaceful election!

My Life in ipod Photos

I don’t carry my digital SLR around with my everywhere…I’m worried I’ll break it. But I do carry around my ipod and that has a camera in it. I was looking at the photos and I thought they told a interesting story about my life in the last 3 months. It shows things that are important to me, really random moments that I had to take a photo of and cute/inspirational moments that needed photos too.

I would be really curious to see other peoples photos off their ipod. I think it really tells us something about our lives. What is important to us, what we think is funny etc.

The photo below is me and my little sister. She is VERY important to me. She is my confidant, friend, and rock. She is younger than me but so much smarter. She is probably also funnier… which is why she is trying to eat my head in this photo.

This is my puppy (my old puppy). Her name is Val, which is short for Valentine. She is actually scared of cameras. She is scared of cameras because of a incident with me…I took a photo of her and the flash went off. Now anytime a camera pops out she RUNS away. However, she doesn’t know my ipod is a camera…WAHAHAHAHA

This is just a random photo from UCLA. Someone put bubble bath mix in the school fountain…I thought it was funny.

I LOVE coffee!!! And it’s finials week…so lots of coffee will be consumed this week and the next.

This was a really inspirational message left outside my gym. I had to take a picture.

This is a photo of my hair struggle. I have really curly hair. It can be wild and a mess. I try shampoos, creams and a heavy duty hair straightener to get it under control…it kinda works.

True Bruins

One of the qualities that makes up a “True Bruin” is community service. Every quarter UCLA gives out an award to three clubs on campus that have done outstanding community service projects. This quarter the award is being given to UCLA’s Pilipinos for Community Health.

Pilipinos for Community Health provides health services to communities in the greater Los Angeles area. This quarter they helped organize a health fair at The Our Lady of Peace Parish Church in North Hills. That day they helped hundreds of people get tested for high blood pressure, body mass index measurements, dental check ups, mammograms, pap smears, glucose/cholesterol tests. For many people who come to this health fair it is one of the few times they get to speak to a doctor.

It was so awesome to photograph UCLA’s, Pilipinos for Community Health. Congratulations on your award!!! You are TRUE BRUINS!!!

Becca Barrett Photography

The group also just got new t-shirts. They are pretty style’n!

Becca Barrett Photography

So if you see anyone walking around campus with these shirts on give them a hug! Because they are awesome 🙂
You can also buy one of the shirts for $10 and the money goes to help the organization do all their good work.
