Puppy!

Bridget and Ken have been married for a little over a year. Since being married they have moved to a new place and they just got a new puppy!!! Bowser is the latest addition to their family. He is a little bundle of energy. It was a lot of fun hanging out with them all at the dog park.

Bowser is extremely curious and incredibly cute! Bridget and ken have their hands full trying to train him. They have been doing some major dog whisper lessons!

It is nice photographing Bridget and Ken. I’ve been taking photos of them since they started dating. It is a great experience documenting them as a couple through different stages of their relationship. I have photos of them when they were dating, then when they got engaged, and now when they are married and have a puppy!

Book Report

Becca Barrett Photography

Being dyslexic, reading is a struggle for me. However, I made it a goal to try to continue reading in my post college life. My reading habits are a lot less vigorous than they were a year ago. I am not reading three or four books a class per academic quarter. But I am reading and I am reading books I like.

Here is a mini review of three of the books I’ve read in the last six months:

Of Mice and Men: I have wanted to read this book for a long time. I had heard the phrase “the best laid plans of mice and men” and I have always wondered what it meant. Now I know. The book is about two men traveling in California. They stop and work on farms, trying to make enough money to one day buy their own farm. However, despite their best planning, the two characters plans do not come to fruition.

The Help: I saw the movie previews and thought it looked good. But I missed seeing the movie in theaters and so while waiting for it to come out on Netflix I thought I would read the book. It was FANTASTIC!!! I have not had that much fun reading a fiction in a long time. The story is written from the perspective of three different women in the south in the 1960’s. Two of the women are black and one is white. All three of them are trying to find their voice.

Bossypants: I have been mildly curious about this book since it came out. I loved Tina Fey’s Saturday Night Live sketch about “bitch being the new black” and her Sarah Palin impressions. At the time I had not seen Thirty Rock but heard good things…so I figured, why not read it. The book was laugh out loud funny but it also had some tongue in cheek advice for women working in a male dominated workplace. That was a nice bonus to the book.

Blessed (and Happy Thanksgiving)

Thanksgiving is the one day we are all meant to stop and think about what we are thankful for. If you think about it, that makes it is a really great holiday. It doesn’t matter how busy your life gets, every year there is one day that tells you to slow down, eat tons of turkey and mashed potatoes with your family and think about all the ways you are blessed. With that in mind here is my “thankfullness list.”

(Is thankfullness a word?!? I swear people, I did graduate from UCLA…)

  1. A dad that understands I might be a little late paying my monthly college loan bill (right, dad?)
  2. Friends that live in New York and Arizona
  3. A job that takes me to New York and Arizona
  4. Having a little sister that can teach me how to cook
  5. I have a job, a roof over my head, a great family, and good health. That is more than what a lot of people have.

Wondering Through the Desert

I recently got a chance to go Phoenix, Arizona. To be honest I didn’t know what to expect. I guessed it would be hot, dry and have cactus’ (kinda like the setting of a Road Runner cartoon).

I didn’t expect to see soooo many skyscrapers or bank buildings. Above is a view outside my hotel window. It was interesting to see the juxtaposition of new buildings and dry desert mountains. There was also great public transportation and a baseball and basketball stadium. I even got to take a tour of Chase Field!

On the last day there I took some time to explore the city and I found St. Mary’s Basilica. It was a really pretty old catholic church tucked in between all the new hotels, transportation systems, convention centers and skyscrapers. I couldn’t help but think how this church has seen this new city grow all around it. It’s the oldest catholic church in Phoenix – it’s over a hundred years old!

And here are more photos from the trip! (sorry there are no fun people photos…)

Graduation Shoot: Sam Iaquinto

Sam and I have known each other since high school. Sam is one of the bravest people I know. She has traveled all over the world! She has been to New York, Japan, the Philippians, Europe, and Latin America. What’s more, she doesn’t just visit a place. Often times she lives there. She is living in Spain right now. I’m so happy I got to graduate from college with Sam. It was nice to through it with someone who had already gone through a graduation before.

I LOVED Sam’s colorful dress!!! and I also LOVED that she wanted to take photos at different parts of campus. She was the only one to ask for a photo with the Bruin Bear.

I miss talking with Sam a lot! I hope she is having a blast in Spain. I’m also really sorry it took me so long to post this shoot.

Boo!

This is Boo. He got caught by the hotel I was staying with. Rather than letting him go to the pound my boss (and me…) decided that we should take him home (and by “we” I mean me). So the cat went home with me and I started tracking down his owner.  Boo had a collar but it didn’t have a tag. So I called the pound, the humane society, twelve different vet offices in the area and the three apartment buildings next hotel were Boo was found. I asked all of them to put up posters about the cat.

Sadly, I was told that only 4% of lost cats are reunited with their owners. So I started trying to get ready to have a pet cat. I was going to call him Apollo. I bought him little cat toys to chase and trained him to meow when he wanted to go out on the balcony.

However after a few days Boo’s owner and I found each other and a few days after that Boo went home. I’m a little sad to see Boo go but I really know it’s for the best. I can’t have a pet right now. I can barely look after myself. But it was nice to have Boo for awhile.

Life in iPod Photos

My life has changed dramatically over the last five months. I graduated from UCLA, moved to Sacramento, and started working at the California Department of Education. I cook my own dinners, buy work clothes…I have my own health insurance now!

Adjusting to this new life has taken some time and I’ve not picked up my camera as much as I would have liked. I’m hoping that will start changing soon. Hoping I’ll be taking more photos in the up coming weeks and I will have something to blog about. Also in the next few months I planning to make some changes to blog. But for now here are some life updates from my iPod…

Here is my badge from work! I have a “real” job…yikes!
